You might have noticed recent news surrounding the upcoming TPO regulations taking effect next year.
TPO will be prohibited in cosmetic products in the EU starting September 2025, with similar restrictions expected in Great Britain by 2026.
We understand many of you have questions and concerns about these changes and how they might impact our products. This blog aims to address frequently asked questions.
What is TPO?
TPO, or Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (also known as diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide), is a photo initiator used in nail products to help harden and cure the coatings quickly under UV light.
Why is it being banned?
Regulatory bodies in the EU and Great Britain are implementing the ban as part of broader cosmetic safety regulations aimed at reducing the use of chemicals that may pose risks, particularly in products that come into direct contact with the skin.
What is Glossify's approach to the upcoming changes?
As a company, we constantly assess cosmetic regulations and have been updating our product formulations in-line with guidelines and upcoming changes.
TPO has been widely used in nail products for years, and all of our current formulations are safe for use on your clients.
We are actively working to make our products TPO-free ahead of the regulatory deadlines to ensure a smooth transition. Once the new rules take effect, none of our products sold will contain TPO.
What Glossify products include TPO?
All ingredient information can be found on our Safety Data Sheets here. TPO is listed as diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide in these documents.
Can I still use Glossify products after the ban?
Yes, any Glossify products you already own can continue to be used after the new restrictions are in place. The ban applies to the manufacture and sale of new products containing TPO, not to the use of existing ones.
