Updated September 2025
You might have noticed recent news surrounding the new TPO regulations in the EU.
TPO is now prohibited in cosmetic products in the EU starting 1st September 2025, with similar restrictions expected in Great Britain in late 2026.
We understand many of you have questions and concerns about these changes and how they might impact our products. This blog aims to address frequently asked questions.
What is TPO?
TPO, or Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (also known as diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide), is a photo initiator used in nail products to help harden and cure the coatings quickly under UV light.
Why is it being banned?
Regulatory bodies in the EU and Great Britain are implementing the ban as part of broader cosmetic safety regulations aimed at reducing the use of chemicals that may pose risks, particularly in products that come into direct contact with the skin.
What is Glossify's approach to the upcoming changes?
As a company, we constantly assess cosmetic regulations and have been updating our product formulations in-line with guidelines and upcoming changes.
TPO has been widely used in nail products for years, and all of our current formulations are safe for use on your clients.
We are actively working to offer an alternative formulation to any TPO containing products ahead of the regulatory deadlines in the UK, to ensure a smooth transition. Once the new rules take effect, none of our products sold will contain TPO.
Any TPO containing products are now unavailable to purchase in the EU from our website.
What Glossify product contain TPO?
Any products that contain TPO will have diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide listed under the ingredients on their Safety Data Sheets. You can access our SDS here.
Can I still use Glossify products after the ban?
Yes, any Glossify products you already own can continue to be used after the new restrictions are in place if you live in the UK. The ban applies to the manufacture and sale of new products containing TPO in the EU. If you are outside the UK, the regulation update can be found here.
