MEET JASMIN
We sat down with Glossify’s Head of Education, Jasmin Bainbridge to explore her journey into the nail industry.
How did you become a nail technician?
"My journey to becoming a nail technician began during my time as a student studying to become an English Teacher at university. However, I soon realised that I wasn't truly happy and craved a more creative outlet. Seeking a change and flexibility in my schedule, I decided to enrol in a nail course. Little did I know, this decision would ignite a deep passion within me. Falling head over heels for the artistry of nails, I transitioned into full-time work as a self-employed nail technician just six months later. I've been dedicated to the craft for nearly 13 fulfilling years."
How did you end up teaching nails?
"Throughout my nail course, I developed a strong bond with my tutor, Joanne Gallagher. Her guidance and support were instrumental in shaping my career. Recognising her significant impact, I seized the opportunity when she invited me to assist on one of her nail courses, after eight years of working as a nail technician. It felt like a full-circle moment for me. Though my initial passion was in teaching during my university days, my creative spirit led me on a different path. Assisting Jo allowed me to refine my teaching style and gain valuable experience."
What do you think makes Glossify courses unique?
"Glossify courses embody the perfect blend of traditional values and high standards, infused with the fresh perspective of a younger brand. This combination is truly unique. As someone who shares the same educational outlook, I was drawn to join the Glossify team. Our courses not only provide a solid foundation of knowledge and expertise but also embrace a holistic approach to teaching. We focus on our students, understanding their learning styles and life goals. Additionally, having tutors who actively practise nail techniques on real clients allows them to relate to and support students in all aspects of their journey."
What advice would you give to a newly qualified nail technician?
"Drawing from my own personal experiences, I would say: Be patient with yourself above all else. Mastering the art of nails may appear effortless and flawless once achieved, but the journey leading up to that point will present challenges. Building a client base and gaining confidence will require time and practice. Train your eyes to identify imperfections and train your hands to correct them. Remember that while social media can be a valuable learning tool, it often fails to showcase the initial struggles of even the most skilled nail technicians. They, too, started from humble beginnings and faced their fair share of imperfections. Your goal in the beginning should be improvement rather than perfection. Embrace the journey and strive for progress every step of the way."
